Today was a pretty good day for our little man. We had a really nice nurse, too, which helped me with my weekend phobia :) Too bad she's not back tomorrow! Dinky continued to have the drops in his heart rate but it always came right back up. They have been busy trying to figure out why he's doing this but as the doctor put it, she's more "annoyed than concerned". They really don't think it's hurting him at all. It's just a mystery. They were able to wean his vent a lot and are hoping to get him back to the c-pap settings on the ventilator by early this week. So overall he's doing really well!
"Ma" and "Pa" were by for a visit today. Martin and I taught them the art of "butt patting", Dinky's favorite activity. This really is the one thing that seems to calm him and there is definitely a technique! Martin and I have joked about hiring a 24-hour butt patter so someone can soothe him when we're not there. Anyone looking for a job? :)

I think I would be an extremely talented Butt Patter, if I do say so myself!
I'm sure it pays more than Social Work! Can I interview for the position when I see you (and what I am sure is the cutest lil butt in the universe) next week? :)
It has been said that Dinky is a really cute little guy. After time with him yesterday and today, I must say "cute" is an understatement. He is beautiful!
For the first time since I have been with him, while I was patting his little behind today, Dinky opened his eyes just a tad... just enough for me to think he saw me (even though I know he didn't). It sure made me feel that he is working really hard to go home.
He has a way to go, but not for the lack of unconditional love and care from Mom and Dad, and not for the lack of love and prayers from friends and family.
Happy Mother's Day indeed.
P.S. I got a smiley face for being a really good butt patter. Don't tell Dinky when he is 15 :-)
You know, one of the most insulting eptithets I have uttered (under my breath, of course) when ticked off by a rude driver, or by a shopper with a cart full of groceries in the "limit 12 items" checkout has been "butt!" or, even worse, "butt hole!" Dinky has now framed this word in a totally new context, and I must henceforth change the vocabulary I use when name-calling. Any suggestions? :-)
I can't wait to pat his sweet little butt! love...
dobie
