Sunday, 7/3

Sorry for not updating yesterday. I stayed at the hospital again and didn't get to the library in time to update. Dinky had yet another spell yesterday morning which made three in a row. They are trying to change his formula and as they are doing that (excuse the images to come) the consistency of his poops is changing and he's having a really hard time with them. Such a hard time that he just turns blue and doesn't take in enough oxygen. From what we're being told this can be common with preemies with lung issues and he'll just need to grow out of it. They have slowed down on transitioning his formula and thankfully he went the last 24 hours without any problems.

With all of the anxiety these past few days I forgot to mention that Dinky has dimples in his elbows. It's very sweet. He's definitely starting to get some "baby fat".

On a lighter note...these past five months we have had more than our fair share of cafeteria food. As with everything else we've had some good days and some bad days. Yesterday Martin thought he was getting a helping of french toast for breakfast. He put some on his plate and smothered it with syrup before realizing that what he had gotten was "scrapple". Not being from this area we weren't familiar with it but it's "cornmeal mush made with the meat and broth of pork, seasoned with onions, spices and herbs and shaped into loaves for slicing and frying". Definitely not something to be eaten with syrup (and many people would say not something to be eaten at all!) Those of you who know Martin know that he never throws anything away, but even he could only stomach a few bites. You know you're tired when even scrapple is looking like french toast!

It's been said before, but it bears saying again: You are amazing, J-Pooh. Despite the worry of Dinky's having his third episode in a row, you note his sweet dimples, and you make us smile by telling us of Martin's intro to scrapple! You're a treasure. love...

I always flinch inside, deep down in my heart and gut when I hear of down days in your NICU. I hope this all resolves quickly and you can get baby Dinky home with you and Daddy.

I can't wait to see Dinky's baby fatty arms and legs on my next visit! I am amassing quite a few baby presents here for you all and I can't wait to bring them to you guys. (The people who sell these things must know I am a sucker for all this cute baby stuff!)

I always thought scrapple was a southern thing? Guess not...at least I never heard of it until I moved to NC. Bravo to Martin for choking down a few bites! What a brave soul!

Love to you all this holiday weekend!
